The State Belt roundhouse in early 1965: Note that there is no turntable. Although the tracks have been gone for many years, the structure still exists today (2003) as a somewhat bizarre office building. That's Alco S-2 #24 peaking around the side, and across the Embarcadero to its left stands the waterfront piers that it served.

new 10-22-03 SP S-11 #1227 waits for traffic to pass before entering the eastbound main off of the 300 lead at the west (north) end of Tunnel #3 (behind the photographer. From 1941-54, the Newcomb Avenue commute stop lay just outside of the tunnel mouth. The last of the once-extensive industrial trackage (located at a formere WW II Army base, Army Streets" namesake) behind the 1227 was pulled up in 2003. Photo by George Solimine, Sr., mid-1950's.
